The Path We Forget to Acknowledge

Until now, this is something I have only shared within my private coaching sessions. Today, I'd like to invite you to sit with the same reflection.
During our coaching sessions, we intentionally slow down and reflect. It is often in that pause that something remarkable begins to happen. Thoughts such as “I haven't gotten anywhere,” “I wasted my time,” or “I'm still in the same place” begin to soften. As we acknowledge our experiences, strengths, values, and the wisdom cultivated along the way, moments of clarity naturally emerge. Experiences that once appeared unrelated begin to reveal their connection, and the path begins telling a story that had been quietly unfolding all along. As travelers, we can become so focused on the destination that we overlook the path. Yet the path is where the lessons, the teachers, and the growth take shape.
Recently, I had the opportunity to experience that same process myself. As I welcomed the kind words of people who have witnessed my journey over the years, I allowed myself to receive them fully. Their reflections allowed me to pause and recognize the depth of experience, knowledge, and value that had been cultivated throughout each chapter of my journey. For many high achievers, moving from one certification to another and from one goal to the next becomes a familiar rhythm. We become so accustomed to asking, “What's next?” that we rarely pause to recognize the person we have become in the process.
Rather than immediately turning my attention toward the next milestone, I intentionally acknowledged every certification and every year of yoga practice. I recognized my experience in behavioral health with the Department of Defense, my work as a Whole Health Coach with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and my experience in trauma-informed healing.
As I reflected, I noticed that my inner dialogue had changed. Instead of asking myself what I wanted to accomplish next, I found myself asking, “What would I like to create now?” and “Who am I becoming that I haven't acknowledged yet?”
Every path has a synchronicity, and this was mine. Svādhyāya, the yogic practice of self-study and self-reflection, allowed me to recognize the value of my teachings, the caliber of the services I offer, and the depth of experience cultivated over the years. More importantly, it allowed me to recognize the person I have become through every chapter of that journey.
Only afterward did I realize that this period of reflection coincided with the beginning of Shravan, a sacred month in the yogic tradition dedicated to stillness, awareness, and inner transformation. As I continue cultivating my relationship with Ayurveda, I keep welcoming the knowledge and learning how to integrate it into my life. Shravan marks a seasonal transition, inviting us to move from the expansive energy of summer toward a quieter and more nourishing rhythm. Ayurveda encourages us to simplify our routines, support our digestive fire, Agni, and create space for restoration, reminding us that slowing down is not separate from growth but an essential part of it.
Reading about Shravan after my own experience made so much sense.
If you've made it this far, thank you. I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to read this reflection with me, and before you continue with your journey, I'd like to leave you with one question.
What is already present on your path that you haven't taken the time to acknowledge?
Even as a wellness coach, I continue investing in my own growth. I have a wellness coach who creates a space for reflection, accountability, and exploration, reminding me that growth is not something we are meant to navigate alone. There is great value in having someone who can help us recognize what is often difficult to see from our own perspective.
If this reflection resonates with you, I would be honored to welcome you into one of my private transformative coaching sessions. Together, we will create the space to acknowledge your journey, recognize the strengths and wisdom you have already cultivated, and explore what you are ready to create next.
Perhaps the next step on your path is not about doing more. Perhaps it begins by kindly acknowledging everything that has already brought you here. By Lety Rodriguez
